Moving Up The Chesapeake - Deltaville to Solomons, Maryland

Next, we motor/sailed about seven hours to Deltaville, and anchored in a nice spot outside of Fishing Bay marina. The following morning we dinghied to the marina, and walked a couple of miles in the blazing sun, to explore the very small town. We toured West Marine boating store, and ate pizza at the infamous 7-11. There was not much there. Luckily, we caught a ride with a fellow sailor, back to the marina.  We found that we could use the marina facilities for a fee. So, the next day, we paid the daily $25 fee and borrowed the marina loaner car to go shopping for groceries and hardware. We returned and did two loads of laundry at the marina (for another fee). The car came in handy a few days later, when we went to a lovely museum and a couple of local shops. We also did another load of laundry and swam in their large pool. Our new friends, Katey and Mike came to our boat for sundowners. It was nice to meet some cruisers for a change.

After five days it was time to pull up the anchor and move up the Chesapeake River - on toward Solomons, Maryland. We did a "pirate stop" on the way; we anchored at Point Lookout - just to sleep and then move on. After quite a windy, bumpy ride we made it to Solomons and anchored in the front part of the bay. The next day we explored part of the town and met Katey and Mike for dinner at the Tiki-hut. The following day dinghied from our anchorage all the way up to their boat that was safely tied to a dock. We toured their trawler, which is a large motorboat. It was more like an apartment than a boat - 3 bedrooms, an office, various living rooms and full-size kitchen appliances! What a dream! We all went to the Calvert Marine Museum in our dinghy and then out for lunch. We are having lots of fun!

We ended up moving over to Calvert's Marina, where Katey and Mike were docked, to hook up to electricity.  The heat had descended upon us and was unbearable!! We needed to hook up to dock electricity to get constant AC. What a relief!

The Ann Marie Sculpture Garden was a highlight at Solomons. Tim and I took the half-mile walk up to the museum/garden. We first strolled through the sculpture garden, viewed the pixie houses made by local artists and viewed the sculptures. It was absolutely lovely. Later, we toured the museum, enjoying the artwork, the exhibits and especially the Axolotl Salamander. It was so cute! (See photos below)

We did a lot in Solomons - we took refuge in the pool, went to 2 wonderful museums,  reprovisioned, had meals with Katey and Mike, visited the grocery, hardware and drug stores.

It was a wonderful stop!
