Into the Rainforest in our Rental Car!

After waiting three weeks in Guadeloupe, we finally got our 2 day rental car. We started off bright and early in the morning in order to get the most out of the small, standard Dacia brand car. And off the the rainforest, we went. Luckily, Tim was skilled at driving a standard shift car through windy roads and hairpin turns. All I had to do was sit back and enjoy the ride. But, of course, I had to help. So, I announced every curve and turn along the way.

Our first stop came early. We hiked up a trail until we reached mud. Then, we returned to the car to continue. Our next hike took us to a waterfall, where we found many other hikers. A plethora of hikes followed. Finally, we reached Pointe-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe's capital. We did some obligatory shopping, as we needed some items that we could not find in the small resort towns. After buying a case of French wine, as well as other important things, we headed back through the rainforest, to town, to our dinghy, to our boat!

We were tired.

The next day we headed back to Pointe-a-Pitre to visit the Memorial ACTe Slavery Museum. It was phenomenal! We were not allowed to bring purses, cameras or drinks inside the museum. There were combination lockers provided to secure our belongings. The only photos that I could take were of the building.

After waiting an hour to get in and over three hours touring the museum, we were tired and hungry. We walked a mile to a restaurant, as the museum snack bar was closed. We returned home, to Liahona after that. It was a fabulous two days.
