Annapolis - The Sailing Capital of America

ree

After two weeks in Solomons, we motored over to Annapolis and successfully picked up a mooring ball outside of the US Naval Academy, on the first try. Thank you, Erin, for your kind tutelage. During our three weeks in Annapolis, we did not see everything. Lol!

We made great use of the Annapolis Harbor water taxi. It's was simple and convenient. The taxi picked us up at our boat and delivered us to town. We did not have to take down our dinghy for over two weeks!

The first day in Annapolis, we met my friend / former co-worker for lunch downtown. The next day, Loretta pick us up at the dock and took us shopping at the commissary. She made dinner for us at her condo. It was wonderful to see her and her husband. It had been 17 years. Thank you Loretta.

That weekend, Anne and Norm came to visit and spend the night on our boat. It was so good to see them. We went to the Boathouse for dinner.  I had the Crabcakes. They were absolutely delicious! Thank you Norm and Anne!

Jonathan and Sahpir drove down from Arlington to see us, and bring the many packages that we had delivered to him. We went out for Maryland blue crabs at The Point. We ordered a dozen large crabs for 3 of us to share. Tim had the fish and chips. He doesn't care to pick at his food! The crabs were delicious, but very time consuming. After two hours, I think I only got a few ounces of meat. So much for these so called "large" crabs. They looked pretty small to me.

We went back to town and got ice cream at Annapolis Ice Cream Company, supposedly the #1 ice cream shop in the US. It was really good! The 4 of us went out to the boat for a couple of hours before they had to leave to get back to the dog. It was fabulous to see them as a married couple! Love you two!!

We did lots of touring in Annapolis: The US Naval Academy, the Naval Museum, the Historic Annapolis Museum, the Arts District, the Antiques District, the Murals of Annapolis and lots and lots of walking and sightseeing. We also took a  motorboat  trip up the Severn River. We love this city!

I was able to spend several days with Loretta; shopping, swimming, eating. It was fabulous spending time with her and getting to know her better. She was such a sanity saver when it came to Hurricane Erin. She opened her home to us, although, as Tim said, we were fine staying on the boat. We went under a drawbridge and found a hidey hole deep in Spa Creek. It was the perfect place to hide out from the storm. It was actually more comfortable than Annapolis Harbor, where we were.

Thank you so much Loretta, for all of your help and support.

Notice the photo from the AIS sailing app. It shows most of the boats in the larger area. Notice that there aren't any boats where Hurricane Erin is sitting!

Moving on.
